Here is a press release the Angels sent out regarding the rest of Thursday's draft: ANGELS SELECT SIX PLAYERS ON FIRST DAY OF 2008 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL FIRST-YEAR PLAYER DRAFT ANAHEIM, CA - The Angels Thursday selected six players on the first day of the 2008 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, in an announcement by Angels' Director of Scouting Eddie Bane. The draft lasted six rounds today and will continue tomorrow (June 6) with a maximum of 44 more rounds. The Angels did not have a first-round pick due to the free agent signing in the off-season of outfielder Torii Hunter (the Twins received the Angels' first round draft pick, No. 27 overall, as well as a compensation selection, No. 31 overall). The Angels, however, were granted a third round compensation selection after being unable to sign their third pick of the 2007 draft (RHP Matt Harvey). As previously announced, the Angels selected right-handed pitcher Tyler Chatwood of Redlands (CA) East Valley HS with their first pick in the second round (74 overall). The Angels' first-day draft was highlighted by the selection of four pitchers and two outfielders, including four high school players and two community college players. OF Khiry Cooper, the Angels' fifth round pick, has signed a letter-of-intent to play football at the University of Nebraska (wide receiver). Prior to the start of today's amateur draft, the Angels participated in the Ceremonial Negro League's Draft by selecting Neale "Bobo" Henderson, a former shortstop and outfielder for the Kansas City Monarchs. This special draft of surviving Negro League players was part of MLB's efforts to honor those players who did not have the opportunity to play Major League Baseball. Following is a round-by-round list of the Angels' selections on the first day of the draft: RD PLAYER POS. B/T HT. WT. BORN SCHOOL (HOMETOWN) 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

My company does video news stories on great people with awesome attitudes -- they don't get much better than some of the Negro League players who broke barriers in baseball!
You can see a video we did at MLB's recent symbolic draft of Negro League players, which includes Millito Navarro, Peanut Johnson, Charley Pride and Bill Blair as well as Ken Griffey and Dave Winfield.
I hope you enjoy it!
