DeWitt out again, will the Dodgers get desperate?

The Dodgers have been actively searching for infield depth from outside the organization, but haven't had much luck finding it.

Case in point: They were scouting the Toronto Blue Jays, who have veteran utilitymen in John McDonald and Marco Scutaro. But after starting shortstop David Eckstein was injured in a game last week, McDonald replaced him and got hurt in the same game. Both went on the disabled list, suddenly giving Scutaro a starting job.

The Dodgers did recently sign Mark Bellhorn to a minor league contract, and the 33-year-old infielder debuted at Class AA Jacksonville on Thursday after spending time in extended spring training.

The 10-year journeyman played in 13 games for the Cincinnati Reds last season, spending most of the year in Class AAA Louisville.
