The Dodgers have been actively searching for infield depth from outside the organization, but haven't had much luck finding it. Case in point: They were scouting the Toronto Blue Jays, who have veteran utilitymen in John McDonald and Marco Scutaro. But after starting shortstop David Eckstein was injured in a game last week, McDonald replaced him and got hurt in the same game. Both went on the disabled list, suddenly giving Scutaro a starting job. The Dodgers did recently sign Mark Bellhorn to a minor league contract, and the 33-year-old infielder debuted at Class AA Jacksonville on Thursday after spending time in extended spring training. The 10-year journeyman played in 13 games for the Cincinnati Reds last season, spending most of the year in Class AAA Louisville. |
