Don't you just love how during Laker games that the TV broadcast uses a break in the action to pan the crowd and point out all the Hollywood celebs? Isn't that just the best? That's what makes a Lakers game a Lakers game. So I was surprised, while watching Sunday's game, that ABC didn't spend more time and energy on the Hollywood star playing for the Utah Jazz. For all the attention the paparazzi pay to Ashton Kutcher, you'd think the network announcers could have at least pointed him out in a Jazz uniform. And maybe also plugged his new movie with Cameron Diaz? Oh, what's the name of that film? It's that fantasy about the NBA moving to Vegas, right?

Ashton Kutcher
So, the more I watched the game the more I realized that it wasn't actually Kutcher playing for Utah. Of course not. Silly me. I had clearly confused fohawk-wearing male heart-throb-of-the-month celebs. Obviously that wasn't Kutcher. It was Zac Efron in the Jazz jersey, hoisting 3-pointers and tussling with the guys in gold. So why wouldn't ABC -- of all networks -- take time out during a break to talk about how Efron, obviously moonlighting between games, has a new movie coming out on the Disney Channel, "High School Musical 3"?

Zac Efron
Wow! Where does he find the time to play for the Jazz and still film the very popular bubble gum trilogy? Oh, those Hollywood types have so much energy to burn. ... How often do you think the 6-foot-6 Kyle Korver is confused for Kutcher, Efron or any of the other bad-hair-day celebthrobs?

Kyle Korver
Korver, meanwhile, put up 11 points against the Lakers on Sunday and was one of four Jazz players collecting at least five fouls in the WWE-style Hack-a-Laker that was Game 1. As for tonight, expect the Jazz to be just as physical and the TV broadcast -- it's TNT tonight, folks -- to give us our required dose of celebrity shots. What are the odds Kutcher, Efron and Diaz are in the house? |
