They got just enough hitting from Garret Anderson and Robb Quinlan, and plenty of pitching from starter Jered Weaver, who held the White Sox scoreless on just one hitt in his seven innings Tuesday for a 2-0 win that returned the Angels (24-17) to first place in the AL West. Oakland's 4-0 shutout by Cleveland dropped the A's to 23-17, a half-game behind the Angels. Scot Shields came on in a scoreless eighth inning to get the win as the Angels scored two in the bottom half while Francisco Rodriguez earned his 16th save in a7 chances, and 13th in his last 13 appearances, with a scoreless ninth. But it was Weaver, who hit a career-best 95 mph on the Juggs gun in the first inning, who earned this one for the Angels even if he didn't improve his 2-5 record. He did improve his confidence, he said, and his ERA dropped, at least, from 5.59 to 4.86 with the seven scoreless innings. |
