Riverside La Sierra junior Reggie Wyatt will not appeal the CIF-Southern Section's decision to deny his hardship request. The track star, who set the national freshman and sophomore record in the 300 hurdles, transferred from Riverside North to La Sierra in late February. Wyatt's father, Reggie Sr., said he transferred his son because he had changed jobs and he needed his son to go to school closer to home. The Wyatt's live in the La Sierra district. But Wyatt's request to participate in high school sports under a hardship was denied by the CIF-Southern Section Mar. 20, according to a spokesperson for the organization. Wyatt had the right to appeal the decision to the CIF State office within 30 days of the Southern Section's decision. "We're not going to pursue high school track this season," Wyatt Sr. said by phone. "We're concentrating on the Olympic Trials." Wyatt's best time of the year in the 400 hurdles, the event he hopes to participate in the Olympics, is 51.45 seconds. The qualifying time is 51.00. Wyatt Sr. said his son should hit that time at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays April 18-20. --John Gonzales |
