Kent, Torre ejected

Jeff Kent and manager Joe Torre were ejected in the ninth inning by second base umpire Andy Fletcher.

Fletcher had called the Diamondbacks' Conor Jackson safe at second the previous inning on a force play that Kent felt should have resulted in an out. Jackson eventually came around to score.

Kent argued the play and then got into a discussion with Fletcher the next inning.
"I challenged the call and I got thrown out," Kent said. "It's a tight situation at the end of the game."

"Unless it's clear cut you can't make that call," Torre said.

It was too close of a play to call the runner safe on. With all the "in the vicinity" calls on double plays that the umps let slide, I can't see why they called the runner safe on this one. From the instant replays, it looks like Kent's foot was most likely on the corner of the bag. Oh well, those things happen.
