Vladimir Guerrero was removed from the Angels' 3-2 loss late Wednesday because he injured his index finger in his seventh inning at-bat. "He kind of got it stuck on the pine tar and it stuck to the bat," Manager Mike Scioscia said about the cause of the injury. Guerrero will be re-evaluated today and Scioscia said the slugger isn't expected to miss much time, if any. What hurt the Angels more than Guerrero's finger was Jered Weaver's first two innings. The 25-year-old allowed all three runs and seven hits and only got five outs, prompting Scioscia to come in and talk to Weaver. "My visit to the mound was not to chew him out but to get him focused," Scioscia explained. It worked as Weaver calmed down, but the offense was limited by Gil Meche and four Royals relievers. Angels' right-hander Alex Serrano made his major-league debut after being called up earlier Wednesday, and pitched a scoreless ninth inning. |
