Kershaw to get a start
Clayton Kershaw is expected to make a start with the big leaguers sometime next week, according to Joe Torre this morning. I was going to blog about Kershaw's first outing, but my computer crashed during the game. Doesn't that kind of stuff happen when you see UFOs? Well, Kershaw's stuff is out of this world. I'm no scout, but his pitches have a way of transcending that. His fastball is blazing and his hammer curve isn't even his best pitch. He wore No. 96 that night and pitched like a pro. A couple plays could have been made behind him and he gave up a home run, but he gritted his teeth (or was that a smile) and struck out the side. Afterward, the 20-year-old wasn't sure whether to call his girlfriend or mother first. The Dodgers, meanwhile, might have start re-thinking when they call him up.

Man, I do not want to see Kershaw rushed. He did struggle a bit after the promotion to AA last year, so the majors this years sounds a bit like rushing, no matter how poised he is. AA or AAA this year is probably a good thing.
Given Torre's veteran fetish, I imagine Loaiza gets a fair amount of rope as the #5 starter until Schmidt gets through rehab (if he does).
