NASCAR: So far, it's Busch's world

While Carl Edwards won the race today, pulling away from Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon to earn his eighth career Cup Series victory, Kyle Busch finished fourth and jumped into the season lead in points, a 335-329 edge on Ryan Newman, the Daytona winner. Busch also leads the Craftsman Truck Series standings, and is second in the Nationwide Series after finishing second to Tony Stewart, who has won both Nationwide events this season.

"It doesn't mean much" this early, Busch said. "If the (Cup) championship was paid for, woo hoo, yeah for us. But we've still got 33 weeks left in this deal. We'll take it now and hopefully hold onto it for a while and keep battling with the 24 (Gordon) and 48 (Johnson). We know they'll come back strong in the points. There's going to be some other contenders, too."

Busch was a Hendrick teammate of Johnson and Gordon last year, but was let go to make room for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Johnson said that they knew Busch's talent and anticipated that he'd make an impact at Joe Gibbs Racing.

"Kyle has shown how capable he is of going fast," Johnson said. "It doesn't matter what it is. Put him out there on a tricycle and he's going to (be up there).

"With that Gibbs crew, he's going to make Tony (Stewart) and Denny (Hamlin) drive harder, and elevate the status of the Gibbs racing organization."
