Dodgers day on the bases
Dodger coaches counted three base-running errors and laughed about a fourth. The first one was on Kemp, who would have been safe at third but didn't run with his head up or recognize that James Loney as a below-average runner wouldn't be sent home. The second mistake was on Martin, who got deked by opposing infielders that the ball hit was a grounder rather than a pop-up. The third mistake was on Chin-lung Hu, who was caught stealing second with nobody out, a runner on third and the Dodgers trailing by a run.
And finally, there were laughs after John Lindsey hit a game-winning two-run single with the bases loaded that Jason Repko didn't realize the game was over zoomed past a third base coach ready to high-five him and crossed the plate.
"We have to find a way to manufacture runs," said Joe Torre, who spoke calmly with Kemp after the gaffe. "The way to do that is by running aggressively."
"If this happens after the 10th game, the meetings won't be calm and cool," third base coach Larry Bowa said.
