Peter Fonda, the king of cool in “Easy Rider,” is set to receive the 2008 King Vidor Career Achievement Award at next month's San Luis Obispo International Film Festival, festival officials said.
The actor-director will appear at the festival on March 15 to accept the honor, Executive Director Wendy Eidson announced Wednesday. The award, named after the director of 1956's “War and Peace,” honors career achievement in filmmaking.
Fonda, who will turn 68 on Saturday, is best known for his role in the 1969 film “Easy Rider” as sex-and-drugs loving biker Captain America. He snagged Golden Globe acting awards for the film “Ulee's Gold” in 1998 and television movie “The Passion Of Ayn Rand” in 2000. Fonda also has two Oscar nominations, one for acting (“Ulee's Gold”) and one for writing (“Easy Rider”). Other film credits include “Race With the Devil,” “Dirty Mary Crazy Larry” and last year's “3:10 to Yuma.”
The San Luis Obispo Film Festival runs March 7-16.
