No spill in early morning train car derailment

Two tankers containing hazardous ethylene glycol were among five train cars that derailed at West Colton Railyard early Friday morning.

There were no injuries and no hazardous materials were released, according to a news release from the governor’s Office of Emergency Services.

The derailment happened at 1:34 a.m. Friday at the rail yard at 19100 Slover Ave., according to a hazardous-materials spill report from the governor’s Office of Emergency Services.

The other three cars that derailed were rail cars, according to the release.

Ethylene glycol is hazardous, according to the release. The substance is commonly used as automotive coolant/antifreeze and in solvents.

At 3:25 a.m., a pipeline was reopened that had been shut down as a precaution against potential release due to the derailment, according to a second release.
