They'll play Sunday at Qualcomm

The indecision is over. The Chargers and Houston will play Sunday at 1:05 in Qualcomm Stadium, as originally scheduled.

The office of San Diego mayor Jerry Sanders confirmed this morning that the mayor had given the Chargers his blessing to play the game at home, and that Chargers management told him this morning the NFL had made the decision to go ahead on the original day and time, rather than push it back to Monday.

"Qualcomm Stadium will be ready for NFL football by this weekend," the mayor said in his statement. "The City will be able to provide sufficient public safety personnel to manage a professional football game without impeding ongoing wildfire recovery efforts. I informed the Chargers late Thursday that should they decide to play their game at Qualcomm this weekend, the Stadium will be ready."

The stadium was closed as a major evacuation center about an hour ago, around noon.
