No Wilhelm Sunday
Inside linebacker Matt Wilhelm's tenure as Donnie Edwards' replacement will have to wait. A calf injury has put him on the sidelines and will keep him out of Sunday's exhibition opener against Seattle, and possibly also the second exhibition next Saturday at St. Louis.
"It's one of those deals where they want to wait a couple days and see how it responds before they tell us how long he'll be out," head coach Norv Turner said.
"It is (a setback). I'd like to see Matt play. ... (His camp) has been outstanding. He's got a great feel for the position, and he's been outstanding in pass coverage and been doing a good job with the run. I think he's going to really have a good year."
Others who are questionable at this point for Sunday's exhibition include Pro Bowl linebacker Shawne Merriman, who has a neck injury; defensive lineman Igor Olshansky, who strained a groin muscle, and backup nose tackle Brandon McKinney, who suffered a stinger in practice.
