Patriot games

In another move to counter the defending Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts, who have been staggered by free-agent defections, the New England Patriots added Randy Moss to a receiving corps that has already stockpiled Dante Stallworth, Kelly Washington and Wes Welker this spring.

The Patriots, who were one offensive drive or a couple bad officiating calls (OK, four but that's another blog) away from beating the Colts in the AFC Championship game, have to feel good about their chances against Indy as we sit here today. Every move has either countered or been intended to expolit an addition or subtraction in 'Naptown.

One example of that this weekend: The Patriots drafted athletic safety Brandon Meriweather to help defend against the Colts passing attack while Indy added Anthony Gonzalez, who is expected to replace Brandon Stokley at slot receiver. Only because of the draft order does it appear as if the Colts are not on the defensive. They are, they're losing ground in huge chunks and there are no zebras around to save them.
