Punters

It's still raining in South Florida and if that continues, as is predicted, Super Bowl XLI will be played with a wet field and a wet ball. Offensive coordinators tend to get conservative in big games and especially so in big games with a slippery ball, where one mistake could change history.

That's why I like Bears punter Brad Maynard as a potential game MVP. Yes, I know. What good are punters in a league that refuses to recognize the geatest of them all (Ray Guy) for the Hall of Fame?

But Maynard won the field-position battle for the Bears in the NFC Championship against the Saints. Maynard's ability to put the ball out of bounds pinned the Saints back when the game was still in question, setting the stage for the safety that changed the course of that game.

With Maynard, Pro Bowl kicker Robbie Gould, and return specialist Devin Hester, the Bears could control the field and win the game with special teams.
