Now Hear This: Rogue Wave

Here's another Now Hear This for your ears.

I caught up with guitarist Gram LeBron of Rogue Wave out at Coachella last month. The band actually was the first band to play the main stage at the festival this year and they did a great set with songs from their 2007 release, "Asleep At Heaven's Gate," which is one of those albums where I'm kicking myself because I didn't hear it sooner.

Now, they are about to head out with Death Cab for Cutie, but if you have some time tonight, Rogue Wave is playing at the Orange County Performing ArtsCenter.

Rogue Wave is watching you.

Although front man Zach Rogue is working on writing new material, LeBron said that the band's focus is on "Asleep At Heaven's Gate" right now and transforming the songs from the complex layers of the studio to a concert presence.

"We've been working on how to play them live and make them powerful," he said.

As of Coachella time, LeBron said they hadn't played all of the songs off the album live yet.

"I just think it's amazing that we can make records and play," he said.

I highly recommend "Chicago x 12," which you can stream on the band's MySpace page.

Put this in the fact file--if you're playing the "Six Degrees of Ben Gibbard" game, LeBron is connected to the Death Cab front man by being introduced nearly a decade ago by friends in the band Mates of State. He also knows Gibbard's girlfriend well--they grew up together in Texas.

Now is the time when the animatronic children at Disneyland get out and start singing "It's A Small World" and while animatronically frolicking in fields of shamrocks or tulips, depending on if you're in the part of the ride representing Ireland or the Netherlands.
