Motley Crue coming to Devore, talks Crue Fest

I can check another one off my list. I talked to Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars of Motley Crue this morning in what might have been the best teleconference ever, complete with a French Canadian journalist who was struggling to ask a question in English.

The band hits the Glen Helen Pavilion in Devore Aug. 2, with the Crue Fest, including Trapt, Buckcherry, Sixx: AM and Papa Roach.

The band was pretty mum about what the production would entail (past shows have included crazy pyrotechnics, a drum set going over the audience and Tommy Lee playing the drums while spinning upside down), but Mars promised the band would deliver.

"We always do stuff that's real cutting edge," he said.

Mars encouraged me to come see the show, because otherwise it would be like going out to trick or treat on Halloween and only getting a Tootsie Roll. I told them that they always give out the good candy. Seriously, Motley Crue is like the house on the block that gives out the full candy bar.

"We're trying to keep it under wraps to keep it more exciting for the fans, too," Sixx said.

The band's new album, "Saints of Los Angeles," is due out in June.

"This album reminds me of our successful albums...songs that were written and then a band that turns them into Motley Crue," Sixx said.

"They're like mini stories, each one," Sixx said about the songs on the upcoming album, which is loosely based on the band's autobiography, "The Dirt."
