So I dropped by the Temecula Music Fest last weekend and had a blast once I finally got there. (Someone forgot to print out directions and figured she knew Temecula enough to know where the Community Recreation Center was and then after calling Charming Boyfriend for directions, promptly ignored them and then had to call him back when she ended up in the Temecula Valley High School parking lot. Yeah, that would be me.) However, the bright side was this cool little amphitheater and seeing some local acts. Amue really impressed me. The music is solid but the live show is even better. I know singer Doug Tejera couldn't move around too much because he was getting feedback, but I would love to see these guys in a club where they could really go off. I like soundscapes and Amue provides them. If I could go back in time to when I was in high school, I would totally rock out like 15 North did. The stage presence on these guys is amazing. Seriously, singer Sam Larsen and guitarist Taylor "Twiggs" Lucker are like Steven Tyler and Joe Perry on stage, minus all of the contraband. They really play off each other well. ![]() "Thriller" makes everything better. They also did a cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat It" that made me smile. I am starting to think anything related to the "Thriller" album makes everything better. Just look at that Jennifer Garner movie "13 Going on 30." It has a "Thriller" dance sequence. Priceless. And now for Iggy and the Rough Riders. They were adorable and punk rock at the same time, if you can be. Seriously, they're a family band of dad Iggy and his five sons, including a young mohawked fellow rocking out on the keyboard and the youngest, named Elvis, who played a skateboard like it was a guitar at one point. And the older sons totally put their hearts into playing. And there was some group coordinated dancing involved (not the "Macarena"). Oh, and the band covered Rancid's "Radio." Rancid is always the way into a punk rock girl's heart. I now want to have a family punk band. I also want to send props out to My Last Revelation--even though they were on in the afternoon, they gave it their all and did a cover of Sum 41's "Fat Lip" that was better than anything Sum 41 has done since. 2 CommentsLeave a comment |

Well Vanessa, you could catch all the really cool bands almost every night of the week here in T-town, until the city(s) who say they want a teen friendly town, decided to shut down every cool scene place. I know because I've been covering the scene since it began. You should do a story on that. All the kids know the real deal. Read any Valley View teen band story by Peter Surowski.

It's crazy. Since I've been here, I've covered the Vault closing, Cuppy's having to stop doing shows, plus the Showcase in Corona, but they've vowed to reopen in a new location. And that one was more city buying up that whole downtown stretch.
