What Bon Jovi is bringing to the Southland stage

Reporters have all kinds of dream interviews. Lots of journalists want to interview a president or a world leader. I wanted to interview Bon Jovi.

Luckily, I had the chance (2008 goal checked off the list, thank you). While the circumstances weren't perfect (Tico, Richie and David in a conference call, without Jon), I was ecstatic when I finally interviewed the band that made the first record I ever bought on my own.

Bon Jovi is coming to the Southland for three shows, starting Friday at the Honda Center in Anaheim. I have a story running in Friday's edition of the Guide, but I wanted to share some of the details on the band's stage set when I asked them about it in this conference call.

David Bryan:
It's going to involve a lot of media and a lot of visuals. So that's the surprise. We can't tell you too much but there's pretty amazing screens and the stage is just awesome. It's probably the best stage we've ever had.

Richie Sambora:
Hey there, Vanessa. It's Richie. [Reporter's note: Richie Sambora actually said hello to me. That was pretty awesome] We've got a bunch of HD screens that are just (morphing) to different things. And it's going to be one of things, I think, that it will be spectacle and people have never seen before.

We're very, very excited about it. And we're going to look at it for the first time too. We've only seen it (rendering) so far. But it looks like it's going to be something, from what we know, after 25 years of experience in these stages and stuff like that, it looks like kind of a, like a holy cow moment. You know, what I mean. People are going to walk away and going, "Wow, this is really cool."

So if you're going to any of the shows, I want a full report!
