Talking about roof-top solar projects in the I.E. ... The first one in Riverside eligible to get a non-residential solar rebate is in the northeast part of town. And there will be a big ceremonial flip-of-the-switch this afternoon to mark the new 14.6 kilowatt solar power system atop Monster Media Inc. The company will get $44,000 in rebates. Mike Bacich with Riverside Public Utilities said the system cost the company about $85,000 before the rebate, plus he'll get a tax benefit. "He did pretty good," Bacich said this morning. Apparently, the company's owner, Derric Swinfard, has solar panels at his own house. ![]() The Press-Enterprise/Amanda Lucidon Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger stands on the rooftop of ProLogis in Fontana March 27, during a press conference announcing the nation's largest rooftop solar installation project. Southern California Edison officials say the project will generate 250 megawatts of solar power. If you remember Gov. Schwarzenegger was here in the I.E. recently to bless a solar project atop a warehouse in Fontana. A few years back he promoted such projects as part of his initiative to have a million solar roofs by 2018. We'll see how that goes. The whole idea is to lessen dependence on coal-generated electricity, which contributes to climate change. But is it better to have a million solar roofs powering individual buildings, or large solar plants in the desert that require transmission lines? Tonight in Riverside, there's a chance to learn more about fire ecology from a botanical perspective. Well-known botanist Fred Roberts will talk at 7 p.m. about "Wildflowers and Firestorms: A Botanical Perspective of the 2007 Fires in Southern California" at the Riverside-Corona Resource Conservation District, at 14th Street and Glenwood Drive. Call 951-640-9549 for more information. At 6 p.m., you can join a tour of the district's native habitat garden. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

You do a great job of covering solar energy installations and the burgeoning green effort in the Inland Empire.
Our firm, HelioPower, had the pleasure of installing the Monster Media solar power electricity system. Our team also engineered and installed Derric's residential system.
Here's some specifics about the Monster Media solar energy system:
The solar power system, which is a roof-mounted installation, is made up of 96 Mitsubishi 185 solar photovoltaic modules and 2 SMA 7000 inverters. After final inspection, the system will be monitored online via a SMA web box monitoring system. This monitoring configuration will deliver system performance specifications to an online portal.
The system will offset 2 tons a month of CO2.This equates to taking 5 cars off the road. Each car produces 12,000 lbs/year. It will produce 2500 kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy per month.
Thank you!
