The Lake Elsinore City Council will have a study session to review design proposals for the civic center later this month.
The center will be the new home for City Hall and include a library, post office and headquarters for the city’s Chamber of Commerce. It could cost as much as $80 million.
Designs for the center have been narrowed downto three submissions. The finalists’ designs are on display at the Lake Elsinore Cultural Center. The meeting is will be at 5.p.m. Aug.30 at the center, 183 N. Main St.

Chaparral High School will recreate its opening-day photo today in celebration of the Temecula Valley Unified School District’s 10th anniversary.
Other planned activities include an alumni barbecue dinner prior to the Oct. 5 homecoming game and a mosaic of ceramic tiles, which will be sold for students and alumni to personalize; and proceeds will fund a tribute for its original graduates, teachers and staff.

Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone has created a contest for community projects that will give winners to receive financial help.
The Third District Civic Betterment Project asks residents within the district to submit proposals for onprojects that would change the lives of those less fortunate. The third district includes the cities of Murrieta, Temecula, Hemet and unincorporated areas of Menifee Valley, Anza and Winchester.
Entries are due Sept. 15. Ten projects will be chosen to receive $1,000 each.

The Temecula Valley Museum will be offering a new series of Docent Training classes starting Monday, September 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the Museum classroom. The Temecula Valley Museum is located at 28314 Mercedes in Sam Hicks Monument Park.
Classes will be held for a course of six weeks on Mondays for two hours. Docents will be trained in presentation techniques and history relating to the cultural heritage of the Temecula Valley. Candidates are required to attend the full training course and sign up for at least one to three days of service each month. No advance knowledge or training is required, just the desire to learn and the willingness to share your knowledge.
The goal of the Docent Program is to provide all visitors with an exciting and engaging experience that gives them a new understanding of Temecula Valley history.

Tickets are now on sale from any member of the Lake Elsinore Rotary club for the Oktoberfest set for Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at McVicker Park in Lake Elsinore. The event will include German food, live entertainment, artisan booths and a children's arts and crafts area.
This is the first Oktoberfest planned by the group and they hope to sell 5,000 tickets. Proceeds benefit many community outreach programs sponsored by the club.
