Update on UCLA's Austin....

UCLA wide receiver Terrence Austin was doing better on Sunday night and coach Rick Neuheisel would not rule him out of playing this week after Austin sustained a hard hit and was taken to the hospital on Saturday.

Austin was released late Saturday night and flew home with the team. He was diagnosed with a concussion and strained neck and was in a neck brace on Sunday.

Neuheisel said that Austin would go through UCLA's tough concussion protocol this week and did not want to rule him out for Saturday's game with Stanford. He will likely need to practice by Wednesday in order to be able to play.

"I anticipate him being full-speed soon," Neuheisel said. "He is questionable but I have my fingers crossed."

After some upheaval near the top of the poll, I opted to put Texas at No. 1 over Alabama because of the Longhorns' performance against previous No. 1 Oklahoma. It was not a slight to Alabama, but I felt Texas proved it is currently the best team out there.
Because of some upsets in the top 5, some mid-level teams won but dropped a slot or two, though that is uncommon.

We've been chronicling all week about why UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel is not a welcome man in Eugene, and there was more of it today.

A boat store near the stadium had its marquee flash the following "Neuheisel has nothing Bruin in LA."

Welcome to Autzen Stadium....

It's a chilly and breezy day here at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon for what has long been my favorite Pac-10 stop in terms of game-day experience (I'll take Seattle over Eugene in terms of overall value).

We're about three hours from kickoff and the field looks nice, but I've always been curious why there is no Nike swoosh in the field, given Phil Knights deep pockets and love of his Ducks. Although rumor has it the rubber pellets in the fieldturf are all shaped like swooshes.
