NABC cracks down on youth movement

NABC.jpgThe National Association of Basketball Coaches made headlines earlier this week when it asked coaches not to offer scholarships to or accept commitments from prospects who are sophomores in high school or younger. Most of us would agree it's a great idea in principle, but what will be interesting to watch is whether coaches will be able to police themselves.
Since the NABC's recommendation doesn't have any actual legislative teeth, there is no penalty for a program for a program that shows interest in a kid early, offers a scholarship and receives a commitment. In an age when top prospects appear in national rankings as young as fourth grade and receive bushels of recruiting letters by middle school, I'm just not sure we can ever truly go back in time.
