It has long been rumored that sophomore center Alex Stepheson would leave North Carolina, and the school made it official this morning. The former Harvard Westlake star said he wants to transfer to a school closer to his L.A. home, citing the health of his father as the primary reason.
UCLA at one time seemed like a perfect fit for Stepheson, but that may no longer be the case assuming J'Mison Morgan does indeed join the team next year. Stepheson may not be comfortable sharing playing time at center with Morgan, plus the former North Carolina big man likely would have to sit out next season, especially since I'm hearing his father's health has improved and his ailment is not life threatening.
UCLA heavily recruited Stepheson out of high school, so the coaching staff should be very familiar with his abilities. I've placed a couple calls this morning, and I'll let you know if I hear anything new.
