Most draft boards did not even have Matt Slater listed, but his importance as a special teamer caught the eye of the Patriots.

How much did the Pats want Slater? They took him in the fifth round but swapped fifth round picks and gave up a seventh-rounder to Tampa Bay in order to get him.

For an organization that already places a high value on draft picks and special teams, it shows how highly thought of Slater is.
