First blog of the playoffs and we'll open it up to a reader's e-mail.
Jim Hlavac (who may be missing a vowel somewhere) sent this note, so let's see how smart all of you are:
1) Since 1995 (the Wild Card era), there have been 18 teams who have finished with 100 wins or more in the regular season.
How many of them have won the World Series?
2) Since the Division Series changed from a 2-3 format to a 2-2-1 format eight years ago, there have been 56 playoff series.
How many more series has the team with home field advantage won.
3) Momentum & Last 10 Games. In the past 8 years (since the LDS format switch), 14 teams have ended the season on a roll going either 9-1 or 8-2. 11 teams have stumbled into the playoffs winning 4 or less of their last ten.
Who has won more World Series, the rolling or the stumbling?
Answers:
1) One. 1998 Yankees
2) -6. The Road team has won 31 series, the home team 25 series.
3) Stumbling 3-1. 2000 Yankees 2-8, 2006 Cardinals 3-7. and the 2002 Angels 4-6. The lone hot team was the 2005 White Sox 8-2.
