Inland GOP volunteer gets backstage pass to Palin

6:55 AM Thu, Oct 09, 2008 | | Comments (6)

Long hours of unpaid work, short nights of sleep and lots of under-eye concealer paid off recently for Bridget Blanton.

The 48-year-old Republican volunteer got a backstage pass to hear Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin speak during a recent swing through California. Blanton caught the attention of state GOP officials for her 50-hour unpaid work-weeks in the Temecula Republican Party office, and they got her the pass to see Palin before a rally last weekend in Carson.

"She just exuded self-confidence, poise," said Blanton, a Temecula resident. "As a conservative Western woman, I've never been more proud."

Blanton said she's been working hard to register new voters and train volunteers, and she credits Palin with energizing many activitists — especially the young women. Blanton said she's tired, but excited. Getting to sit just 6 feet from Palin in a room of a few dozen people just added to her energy level.

"She exemplifies what I have been doing as a Republican woman for years now," Blanton said.

Republicans in Redlands, yes they're still there

6:55 AM Wed, Oct 08, 2008 | | Comments (0)
Posted by: PE News

With all the noise Democrats have been making in San Bernardino County these days, you might almost forget that Republicans are actually a majority in the city of Redlands.

But they're still there, and they're celebrating the grand opening of their new Redlands headquarters tonight — just around the corner from the Democratic shop in downtown Redlands.

The Redlands Republican Women Federation plan to kick off their event at 5:30 p.m. at 14 N. Fifth St. tonight with Mexican food, live entertainment and political speeches. Call
909-307-3308 or 909-307-3956 for more information. Organizers say Rep. Jerry Lewis, R-Redlands; and state Sen. Bob Dutton, R-Rancho Cucamonga; and Assemblyman Bill Emmerson, R-Redlands, are scheduled to attend.

Democrats have been working to register new Democrats in San Bernardino County and end Republicans' lead in the county. They have an office at 104 State St. in Redlands.

For now, the Republicans still have a 16,858-to-12,591 lead over the Democrats, according to the registrar of voters' numbers.

Debate update

11:47 AM Thu, Oct 02, 2008 | | Comments (0)

It turns out Rep. Mary Bono Mack won't be joining fellow Riverside County Republicans to watch tonight's vice-presidential debate on TV after all.

The county GOP sent out an announcement this week inviting supporters of John McCain and Sarah Palin to join the congresswoman at a debate-watching party. But Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs, is busy in Washington -- something about a bailout plan.

The Republican McCain-Palin event will still take place — without Bono Mack — from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the campaign's Palm Desert office, 74390 Highway 111.

And there are plenty of other places to watch the faceoff, which will be broadcast from Washington University in St. Louis at 6 p.m. PDT. PBS' Gwen Ifill will serve as moderator for the 90-minute debate between Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a Republican.

Those who want to watch the debate with more than a few bottles of wine at their fingertips can go to the Winery at Canyon Crest in Riverside. The owners plan to play the first and only VP debate in HDTV there. There's no coverage charge.

Supporters of the Barack Obama-Joe Biden ticket will meet at the Marriott in Riverside, where about 200 turned out for last week's presidential debate. There will be food and a cash bar at 3400 Market St. The cost is $5 and people seeking more information can call Jose Medina at 909-645-3567

In Moreno Valley, Democrats plan to watch the debate during at potluck scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at 24443 Sunnymead Blvd.

In Temecula, Riverside County's GOP will hold another debate-watching party at 28120 Jefferson Ave. #205.

Democratic desert dwellers also will get together at the Point After Bar and Grill, 34331 Date Palm Drive, in Cathedral City. The doors will open at 5 p.m., and a donation of $15 is requested. Organizers ask that interested people call 760-328-9425.

And for those who want a bipartisan event, a politically mixed crowd will gather at Jerseys Pizza at 985 W. Kendall Drive in San Bernardino.

Democrats to lay out voter-fraud case this morning

9:48 AM Wed, Sep 17, 2008 | | Comments (1)
Posted by: PE News

San Bernardino County Democrats are gathering in front of the registrar's office this morning to elaborate on allegations of voter fraud they made Tuesday.

Party officials contend that paid signature gatherers illegally switched voters' registrations to Republican. Democrats discovered the alleged fraud after Republican registrations started to climb rapidly a few weeks ago. The Democrats say they called voters and found 27 who were unaware they had been re-registered as Republican.

Democrats complained to the registrar, who turned the matter over to the district attorney. The Democrats will offer additional details on their investigation at 11 a.m. today at 777 E. Rialto Ave., San Bernardino. They plan to visit some locations where the alleged fraud occurred and see if they can catch anyone in the act. If they do, the Democrats plan to call police and try to get the signature gatherers arrested.

San Bernardino Democrats closing in on the GOP

11:50 AM Fri, Sep 05, 2008 | | Comments (3)
Posted by: PE News

San Bernardino County remains a red county, but the Democrats are confident it won't be for long. They're so confident, in fact, that they've already got a celebration planned.

The San Bernardino County Democratic Central Committee is holding a "red-to-blue" celebration Oct. 11 in Rialto at Bob Molina Memorial Park. Organizers already are spreading the word and hope to have several big-name guests in attendance, such as Lt. Gov. John Garamendi and actor Ed Asner.

Republicans have held an edge in voter-registration in San Bernardino County since 2002, but Democrats have been working to turn the county blue. They're now just a few hundred voters shy of passing the GOP, with 302,091 Democrats registered in the county to Republican Party's 302,556.

More details on the celebration will be available at the Democrats' Web site.

Democratic Party to party this weekend

5:30 AM Fri, Sep 05, 2008 | | Comments (2)

If you need a break from this week's Republican news, here's an update from some Inland Democrats ...

The Democrats of Moreno Valley are set to party this weekend at their new headquarters as part of a fundraiser and campaign kickoff for Barack Obama and other Democratic candidates in the Inland area.

They say doors will open at 6 p.m. and they'll dance in the parking lot until they just can't dance anymore. The office is at 24443 Sunnymead Blvd., Moreno Valley, in the southwest corner of the Sundance Center.

They say there will be DJs, food, a no-host bar and repeated plays of Pink's "Let's get this party started."

Ex-Republican riles Democrats at Obama party

10:16 AM Fri, Aug 29, 2008 | | Comments (0)
Posted by: PE News

Down in front.

Don Williamson, the former San Bernardino County assessor and former Republican, drew jeers from the crowd Thursday night at the Barack Obama watching party held at Perris Hill Park in San Bernardino.

Williamson took the stage to pitch his candidacy against Assemblyman Anthony Adams, R-Hesperia.

Williamson lamented the high cost of gasoline and talked about his desire to return the price to $2 per gallon. He even complained about the cost of gassing up his RV, which prompted some to yell at him to sell it. Still others said he shouldn't be talking about oil at all but should be talking about solar and wind energy.

One woman jumped atop a metal bleacher and exhorted the crowd to "stand up" in protest of Williamson's remarks. Some complained that he should get off the stage entirely so they could watch the giant TV screen behind him with images of the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Some onlookers eventually just walked out.
