The chancellor of the University of Texas has been chosen as the top candidate to lead the 10-campus University of California system.
A special selection committee of the UC Board of Regents voted today to recommend Mark Yudof to replace outgoing President Robert C. Dynes.
The full board still needs to approve the selection.
The 63-year-old Yudof has presided over the University of Texas system since August 2002. It’s one of the country’s largest university systems, with 15 campuses and a $10.7 billion annual operating budget.
Dynes announced his plans to resign last year after taking responsibility for a pay scandal involving university administrators. He’s expected to step down by June. He has held the job since 2003.
