Two suspects from Palm Springs are in jail, suspected of passing fraudulent checks at a Rancho Mirage Home Depot and other crimes, authorities said.

Matthew Whitton, 33, and Tracy Cross, 35, have been arrested on suspicion of burglary, fraud, identity theft, forgery, possession of forged idealization and violating probation, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Cross and Whitton were arrested on Sunday by Rancho Mirage police on suspicion of passing fraudulent checks at The Home Depot, 34249 Monterey Ave., authorities said.

The pair had been under investigation for a series of frauds throughout the Coachella Valley.

Search warrants were served Tuesday in two Palm Springs locations. Items were allegedly recovered that had been obtained by the suspects through fraudulent means, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Anyone with information regarding the case was urged to contact the department at 760-836-1600.
