According to Census data released just last week, "Real median household income declined by 3.6 percent between 2007 and 2008, from $52,163 to $50,303, following 3 years of annual income increases." USA Today took an interesting look at that data. It found that "The incomes of the young and middle-aged -- especially men -- have fallen off a cliff since 2000, leaving many age groups poorer than they were even in the 1970s." And your age may help determine your fate. According to the Census, if you were born before 1955, you're enjoying a four-decade run of historic income growth. Anyone born after that is now suffering from a sinking paycheck--a problem that could take decades to correct. |
