Thumbnail image for unemployment.JPGStarting today Sears is offering to help shoppers who lose their jobs after making a big purchase. They call it the Sears Buyer Protection Program.

There are a few things you have to do in order to qualify. You must have purchased a major appliance that costs more than $399 using your Sears credit card. You've got to remain employed the first 60 days after making a purchase.

That means if you lose your job 61 days after the purchase or within the year, Sears will credit their account for the purchase and even allow you to keep the appliance. The deal is they credit 1/12th of the purchase price for each month you are unemployed.

The program is available starting today through August 1, 2009.
