Recently in Texas Supreme Court CategorySupreme Court Justice Nathan Hecht is appealing his $29,000 fine from the Texas Ethics Commission. You probably recall Hecht was fined the $29K for failing to report discounted legal fees from the Jackson Walker law firm. Consumer advocacy group Texas Watch filed the complaint. Reporters have attempted to ask Hecht for his side of the story, but tracking him down has been difficult. The appeal was filed on Tuesday, January 27th in J... Expect intermittent blogging for the next couple of days, as I burn off a few vacation days. But since I'm here, a heads up for anyone interested in the Texas Supreme Court -- the Texas Ethics Commission will hold a public hearing to discuss the complaint Justice Nathan Hecht got an improper discount on his legal expenses while defending himself against judicial admonishment a few years ago. Hecht hasn't spoken publicly about this ethics trouble. In August, he slipped our cameras when he went... It's a story I couldn't ignore. You have the longest-serving justice on the state's highest court, failed U.S. Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers, Oprah's onetime attorney, allegations of campaign finance violations, and secret passageways to escape ALL in one story. Totally unproductive three-day weekend here at PJ headquarters. Just to get y'all back up to speed: On the Texas front: --The Texas Supreme Court reviewed documents over the weekend but so far has not made a decision on whether to overturn a ruling by the Third Court of Appeals that Texas was wrong to seize those 460 children from the FLDS compound. --The "who loves veterans more" back-and-forth between Senate candidates John Cornyn and Rick Noriega continues. Noriega stoked the flame... A Houston grand jury has indicted Texas Supreme Court Justice David Medina's wife on arson charges. The indictment alleges she burned down the home she shared with Justice Medina in Spring. This is the second time Francisca Medina's been indicted. In January, a grand jury indicted Francisca AND her husband, but then-DA Chuck Rosenthal dismissed the charges. See the link above for the full H-Chron story. ... |
