House GOP Leader: "High Chance" of Special Session

House GOP Caucus leader state Rep. Larry Taylor, R-Friendswood, says it's unlikely the Texas legislature will finish its work before the regular session ends, and estimates a "high chance" the Governor will call the House and Senate back for a special session.

"There's almost a guarantee that some things won't line up in time," said Taylor, noting that the dispute over what to do with federal unemployment insurance money alone is enough to trigger a special. Also still on the table: Texas windstorm insurance reform and Texas Department of Insurance reform.

"It could just last three, four days," he said. "But with hurricane season about to start, we've got to deal with windstorm insurance."

The Governor's office is staying characteristically coy.

"There is still time for lawmakers to address key issues," said Perry press secretary Allison Castle.
