State Rep. Todd Smith, R-Euless, who has now floated several versions of a House substitute to the Voter ID bill, is going back to square one. His committee is expected to pass the original Senate version of the bill this afternoon in a meeting on the floor. The Senate version does not require photo ID - it allows two forms of non-photo ID. But, and perhaps here's the sticking point for some of the Elections committee's most conservative members -- the SB doesn't phase-in Voter ID requirements. Smith's two previous "compromise" bills phased-in voter ID in either 2013 or 2011. Stay tuned. |
