Theres a battle ahead, many battles are lost
But youll never see the end of the road
While youre travelling with me...
-Crowded House

Chairman of the House Calendars Committee, state Rep. Brian McCall, R-Plano, sought to calm some anxiety he didn't expect to create. McCall had to clear things up with an announcement on the House floor this afternoon, after his committee sent out bill preference cards. The committee asked each member to list, of the bills he/she authored, which three they'd most like to see set on the on the House agenda, aka calendar.

"This does not mean we are only going to set three of your bills," McCall said. "We will set five of your bills, or ten."

With the clock ticking on the session, McCall said he just wanted to make sure the committee was setting the bills members most preferred to make it through the process. 7,000 bills were filed this session. Typically only about 20% of the bills filed in a given session make it into law.

UPDATE 5:23pm: My man Stiles built a spreadsheet for us of the bill passage rate/veto rate of in the previous five sessions, not including resolutions.

There's too much politics in Texas to fit into a newscast, so the fun continues here.
