It's a first for many in the capitol press corps -- a chance to see and hang out inside the 1,800 sq. ft. speaker's capitol apartment. Speaker Joe Straus invited the press "to personally greet and meet members of the Capitol press corps and permit members of the Corp to view, tour, photograph or video tape the newly renovated Speaker's Apartment." It comes on the heels of the AP's latest story on how former speaker Tom Craddick spent all but $18 on last minute renovations to that apartment before he left. But as the Statesman's Jason Embry points out, it's still unclear whether the new speaker will operate differently than Craddick in terms of on-the-record responses to whatever issues come up day-to-day during session: "Former speaker Tom Craddick never invited the full press corps into the apartment, although he did make himself available for short press conferences far more often than Straus has so far," Embry writes. Breakfast starts at 8:30am. Check back for photos mid-morning. I'll be tweeting throughout. |

There's too much politics in Texas to fit into a newscast, so the fun continues here.
