New to the Corps, Kinda

The Capitol Press Corps didn't escape this era of shrinking news organizations and disappearing bureaus. We lost the reporter for the Valley newspapers (Liz Pierson Hernandez), three members of the Fort Worth Star Telegram bureau, two members of the Houston Chronicle's bureau, and The Dallas Morning News' Karen Brooks will leave this Friday for the calmer waters of new media.

So I'm quite happy to share that John Moritz, formerly of the Star-Telegram, and Matt Stiles, of the Houston Chronicle, are joining/returning to the press corps.

Moritz, who worked in Austin for the last ten years, will now be working for Harvey Kronberg's Quorum Report, focusing on energy issues... "renewables and utilities with an eye toward the Public Utility and Railroad Commissions," Kronberg wrote. Moritz is already settled into his new post, so you'll see him roaming around the capitol.

Stiles, who is a government reporter for the Houston Chronicle, comes to Austin to cover the Houston/Harris County delegation and work on broader investigative projects here and there. He was last seen working in Austin in 2003, when he followed the rogue Democrats to Ardmore as an intern for The Dallas Morning News.

Yay, Matty and John! So glad to have them around (still, and again.)

Thanks for the shout-out, Elise, but I'm not "leaving." I've got floor credentials, I'll still be in the Capitol, still blogging, still on the political team. It'll just be for KXAN, instead of the DMN. I'm still in the Capitol Press Corps.

It's just that instead of Belo sisters, we'll now be competitors. GAME ON!

There's too much politics in Texas to fit into a newscast, so the fun continues here.
