ABC state Rep. Brian McCall, R-Plano, says the maneuvering over who will be the House Speaker will wrap-up soon. How soon, he's not sure. "But this won't go to the first day of the session. I think it's in the entire House's interest to have this worked out before the first day," McCall said. Strategy sessions are planned for tonight and Sunday. ABC's will meet in a top secret location in Austin tonight to pick their consensus candidate for speaker. "After that, we'll reach out to other members who are for change. Craddick will not be speaker," McCall said. Craddick, meanwhile, will hold a strategy session in Austin on Sunday. His allies told the Star-Telegram that Craddick will decide whether to stay in the race for Speaker or withdraw. "He'll decide one way or the other,'' said Rep. Warren Chisum, R-Pampa, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. Chisum said he was invited by another Craddick ally who told him: "We're having hamburgers and ice tea and we ain't drinking no whiskey. We're going to make some serious decisions."No word on whether there will be adult beverages at tonight's ABC strategy session, but if you know the ABC's, you probably know the answer. |
