Don't be too quick to call State Rep Joe Straus, R-San Antonio, a "presumptive speaker" or "speaker designate". His spokesperson and other aides want to make clear he's just "State Rep Straus" until an official speaker election next week.

Straus: Not Speaker Yet

Of course, there are no other candidates who remain, and Straus has the pledged backing of well over 100 members of the House now. But politically, he's still treading lightly. He's keeping a low public profile since the massive Monday press conference and his press announcements are oh-so-carefully-worded to avoid sounding presumptuous.

So Straus says don't call him "Speaker", at least not yet.
