Krusee Due In Court

State Rep. Mike Krusee, R-Round Rock, won't be returning to the Texas House next session, but he's a lawmaker until his successor, Diana Maldonado gets sworn in. What's he doing with his remaning days as a state lawmaker? Taking care of some personal legal business.

In April, he was charged with driving while intoxicated. A DPS trooper arrested the House Transportation Committee Chair in the Anderson Mill area, and he spent a night in jail. Monday, the case goes to trial in Williamson County.

Krusee has pleaded not guilty to the charge and will be defended in court by Jason Nassour, who is the law partner of House Parliamentarian and former state Rep. Terry Keel (and the Jason that Krusee refers to in this exchange).

Under Texas law, a first-time DWI offense like the one Krusee faces is a Class B misdemeanor, and he could be sentenced to anywhere from three to 180 days in jail or a fine up to $2,000. Most first-time offenders get probation instead. With Willco though, it's hard to say. Isn't it the same place where some young people got sentenced to jail for stealing Sonic fast food?

There's too much politics in Texas to fit into a newscast, so the fun continues here.
