Bloggers United

Throngs of those crazy liberal bloggers* -- and the Democratic lawmakers they support -- gathered on the deck of Cedar Door in Austin to celebrate the first night of the Democratic state convention. Where are the pictures? Well, someone left her camera in her car, which was parked several blocks away. As Mr. T would say, I pity the fool.

A rundown of the evening:

-- On the walk to the event, we (I and fellow blogger/fellow ABC afflilate reporter Miya Shay) run into State Rep. Sylvester Turner, who is holding a presser on tuition deregulation in the morning at THE CAPITOL, where everyone WON'T BE. Tried to convince him to change the location and move it south, to, say, the Convention Center. He feared it was probably too late.

-- At Cedar Door, a couple of Democrats were trying to find a list of the former pageant queens and models that State Rep. Joaquin Castro has dated. /Was this a joke? I don't know for sure.

-- Lots of House members were in the, er, house, but no state senators. Guess they had a cooler party to be at.

-- Met the man, the myth and the legend, Charles "Off the Kuff" Kuffner. He was exactly what I imagined him to be.

-- Letters from Texas blogger/political consultant Harold Cook stayed in the same chair for at least three hours.

-- The "Are you Jennifer Kim?" jokes have not died.

*I think that's what they like to be called.

It's just like the evil corporate so-called "mainstream" media to be inaccurate. I'll have you know that, if you had as a member of the esteemed fourth estate had maintained the vigilance befitting the Belo Corporation, and oh yeah your viewers, you would have known that in the middle of that 3 hours, I went to the men's room. When I returned, I sat in an entirely different chair, which was a full one chair away from the original chair. I demand a retraction and an apology. What is this anyway, the National Enquirer? What's next, a headline claiming that aliens from outer space have invaded the planet?

Three possible explanations:
1.) Men's room visits don't count.
2.) Not sure I believe you were actually in a different chair.
3.) You could say I was being abstract.

He was exactly what I imagined him to be.

I'm still not sure what you mean by that, but I take it as a compliment anyway. :-)

Sen. Van de Putte was there, though I didn't get to meet her; she may have left before you arrived. We did have three State Senate candidates - Wendy Davis, Joe Jaworski, and Rain Minns.

Elise, thanks for your blogging. You might be covering the Republican State Convention in Houston and want to know that the bloggers booth there will be hosted by Americans for Prosperity, along with Sen. John Cornyn, Commissioner Michael Williams and Speaker Craddick. DMN's legendary political reporter Sam Attlesey used to say you could find more political news sitting around a party's convention than you can at the Capitol. Keep on blogging!
