McCain's Running Mate? You Decide.
CQ Politics just launched a pretty cool if-you're-bored-at-work game modeled after the NCAA tournament in which you can choose John McCain's GOP running mate from a field of 32 potential picks (selected and handicapped by the editors). There's also some info from the reporters on each of the 32, based on who might have the inside track.
Interestingly, in the first round match-up, US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, is pitted against Governor Rick Perry's first pick for president, Rudy Giuliani. What the CQ editors say about Kay:
Hutchison is one of the few women in Congress with the right mix of stature and conservative credentials for the VP spot. She's experienced with military and veterans issues, and can give a softer edge to GOP policy prescriptions than some of her colleagues. But her support of basic abortion rights and embryonic stem cell research could enrage social conservatives.Governor Perry himself is also in the first round. He's facing Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska and former Miss Alaska contestant. What they say about Perry:
Perry, who succeeded George W. Bush in 2000, governs more people than anyone who is eligible to be president. But that may be Perry's only strength for McCain, who is unlikely to choose another Texas governor. McCain will probably carry Texas regardless of his VP choice and Perry only won re-election in 2006 with 39% of the vote against 3 opponents.Play the game here.
