Travis DA: The Air Attacks Begin
Television viewers in Central Texas are getting treated to a new barrage of political ads, this time in a hard fought runoff race for Travis County District Attorney. The race has garnered statewide attention and money because the Travis DA is the only prosecutor in the state with the authority to criminally prosecute political malfeasance.
Most of the ads on the airwaves we've seen during the run up to the primary -- the softer side of Rosemary Lehmberg, the tougher side of Mindy Montford. But now, the candidates are running ads against each other, featuring not-so-soft portrayals.
Crystal Cotti at Austin's Fox station takes a look at Montford's new ad against Lehmberg, which accuses Ronnie Earle's office of allowing a burglar to go free after he left Texas. Lehmberg is Earle's first assistant, and Earle's pick to succeed him.
Lehmberg, meanwhile, is on the air with a new ad questioning her opponent's ties to Republican lobbyists. I've asked her campaign for a copy of this ad but haven't gotten it yet, if someone out there has one, please send it to me and I will post a link.
BTW, Thank you to the readers who helped my blog here make the Washington Post's "Best of State Politics Blogs" list. Considering I've only been around the blogosphere for the past six months, it's quite an honor. Thank you for your patronage and your linkage.
