My Morning at the Ho-Jo
Obama for America staffers are all holed up in an Austin Howard Johnson (or HoJo, as I like to call it) for training on Texas' primary/precinct caucus system. About 150 staffers were stuffed into a Howard Johnson conference room that looked straight out of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, complete with the sixties carpeting.
No fear and loathing among staffers, though. Everyone seemed eager to fan out across the state in which Hillary Clinton is said to have a built-in advantage because of the folks who tend to vote for her (Latinos, blue-collar folk, seniors). During my quick visit in the training room, former Austin state lawmaker Glen Maxey was teaching the ins-and-outs of the Texas precinct caucus system.
Grassroots volunteers for Clinton held a training session in Houston on Saturday, but the press was kicked out. Stiles talked to someone outside:
Across town, a few dozen supporters for Sen. Hillary Clinton started to gather their troops at the McGovern-Stella Link Neighborhood Library for a training session on Texas' complex process for apportioning delegates. In other Texas presidential race news, Obama will be up on Texas airwaves starting tomorrow, with a healthcare themed ad, "Mother". Here's a look:Excited about the Democratic contest, Nata Koerber said she's pleased that the party has top-notch candidates, but she said she will be supporting Clinton.
"This is one of those rare campaign seasons," she said. "It's truly historic."
