Remember, Remember... Ron Paul
He still registers in the single-digits in national polls, but Texas Republican Ron Paul supporters are true-believers. They are the die-hard, hardcore, we'll-stand-in-the-rain-holding-a-boombox-outside-your-window kind of supporters.
This summer, Paul became an internet phenom, drawing more google searches one week than the iPhone and Paris Hilton. We even did a story on his Austin "meetup.com" group because it was among the largest in the nation.
The net roots have served Paul well. Today, a grass roots effort called "This November 5th" aimed to raise $2 million for Dr. Paul in one day.
"Tell you what, if the 5th of November really works out well, we really WILL remember the 5th of November!" Paul said.
As of this afternoon, his campaign tells me online donations - not pledges - have ALREADY TOPPED the goal. Only, his campaign says it isn't behind - nor is it organizing - this project. It was started by a few of those hardcore supporters out there, and spread through word-of-mouth online.
As of 2:27pm, donations hit $2.5 million. That's $2.5 million in 14 hours.

Tuesday UPDATE: Paul raises $4.2 million, exceeding one-day totals of all other GOP candidates.
