Monday Monday
Well, it's been quite a day already and it's only 3:30 in the afternoon.
Federal prosecutors unsealed indictments against State Rep. Terri Hodge and fifteen others this morning, including Dallas City Councilmember Don Hill. The charges involve bribery and a kickback scheme in which Hodge and Hill apparently took money in exchange for helping a construction company win contracts.
No news of cash money being found wrapped in foil inside a freezer a la Louisiana U.S. Rep William Jefferson, but it is a complex case.
I recommend taking a look at this video of my DMN buddy Dave Levinthal explaining some things in an easy-to-digest way.
In other news... Fundraising numbers were due over the weekend and the Noriega camp has released its totals:
$570,000 from nearly 1,300 unique contributorsIncludes $50,000 Noriega loaned himself
$5,000 from Votevets.org, the organization for Iraq/Afghanistan vets which endorsed Noriega last week
The campaign notes that his third quarter fundraising totals puts him ahead of money raised by Senators John Tester (D-MT), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Jim Webb (D-VA). You may remember those freshmen senators knocked off some well-placed and well-financed Republicans in the 2006 general election.
Whew. More later, likely.
