This is pretty huge. Democrat Mikal Watts is backing out of his bid for U.S. Senate (he was engaged in an interesting race against State Rep. Rick Noriega for the Democratic nomination.) He's citing family reasons, see below: For the last five months I have been exploring a race for the United States Senate because I believe that our junior senator, John Cornyn, has let Texas down and is more concerned with his cronies and friends in Washington than with what's best for Texas. The reasons for creating my exploratory committee still exist. As I have criss-crossed the state and met and talked with tens of thousands of good Texans, it is evident how much the people of Texas want and need a Senator who will fight every day for their interests and not the special interests. We need to elect a new Senator in Texas and I will personally do everything possible to support the Democratic nominee. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

There's too much politics in Texas to fit into a newscast, so the fun continues here.

I think he'll be back in 2010. Since KBH is retiring, it'll be an open seat, so he won't have to face an incumbet Republican Senator in the state of Texas, and he can let Noriega be the sacrificial lamb this time around, while preserving and building his war chest against primary challengers in 2010.
