It's not failure if you learn from your mistakes

I'm looking forward to spending my long Easter weekend in my garden. I've been staring longingly out of the office windows, wishing I could bask in some of the sunshine.
But this weekend -- I'm just maintaining. or at least, that's the plan. Often I get big ideas on Saturday morning and it turns into a huge project.
Last weekend -- that's what happened. I noticed that something was chomping on the tomato seedlings I had so carefully transplanted into the garden. I could find no sign of the culprit, and even though my husband says the plants just withered away, I don't believe him. The leaves and stems were definitely chomped.
So I dragged the family down to my favorite local nursery, braved the heavy crowds, and snagged about 13 different varieties of tomatoes -- all early producers -- as well as some peppers, zucchini and melon.
We read that a lean-to frame is great for trellising, but since the bull wire we have isn't as long as the beds, we built a vertical trellis instead, using some 2x4's and wire to hold the bull wire in place. It looks nice, and I hope the tomatoes enjoy the support.
I refuse to get upset about the tomato seedlings that became yet another failure for me. I'm going to try again -- this time I'm going to start earlier and pot up at least once before putting them in the ground.
