Welcome to my weather corner. Since we have limited time on the air to talk about stuff, this blog will be a place where we can get a little more into weather topics and other topics, too. For example, I LOVE to go out and talk to students at area schools.

Tuesday, I was invited to Hillcrest Elementary in the Del Valle ISD. All of the 5th graders gathered with their teachers in the library and we talked weather! We discussed the water cycle and, specifically, its impact on Texas weather. Air masses and fronts were big topics and I got so many great questions! Thanks Hawks... for a really fun afternoon!

One young lady expressed her interest in becoming a meteorologist someday, so we talked about how to get there. I told them to experience variety in high school. Take drama, join the French club, run for student council or play sports. Anything... but get involved and become well-rounded. Then it's off to college for that 4-year Bachelor of Sciences degree in Meteorology, or a related field, like atmospheric physics, or geosciences.

It's also important to see what jobs are out there. Get an internship at a television station. Most offer them and it's a way to immerse yourself in the newsroom culture. You can see if it's a job or a career that will be good for you! The National Weather Service is another career choice and they are ready and willing to help.
